Pete and I bought a new tent on Saturday morning. Pete already had one which was big enough for just him, and had used it in anger at festivals. I have been less keen to experience sleeping outdoors again (my last ‘in tent’ experience was when I was doing my Duke of Edinburgh expedition), but Pete decided at the last minute that he wanted to go and see the solstice sunrise at Avebury – and it sounded like so much fun that I wanted to go too.

So we went off to the outdoor shop, dropped a bunch of cash on a nice big tent, two inflatable mattresses and a couple of pillows, packed up the car and set off after lunch. We got to Avebury at about 3.30 pm – which was far too late as the whole place was heaving and there was no room at the camp site. So we came home again.

It was a bit disappointing, but we have the tent and the enthusiasm hasn’t worn off so we’ll give it it’s debut outing at some point in the future and see whether we have a future in tents. Or not.
