Tools

The next area Pete and I plan to declutter (although we’re still cutting down on possessions all through the house in a gradual manner) is the sun room and the shed. We want to remove the sun room completely, and put a nice patio in instead, but before we can do that we have to get rid of – or find different storage space for – the stuff in the sun room.

There’s a lot of gardening stuff in there, plant pots and the like, which will need to be found a new home. There’s also no doubt lots of unwanted stuff as well, DIY tools and all kinds of things.

Useable tools are surprisingly easy to find a new home for. Workaid take tradesmans tools, sewing machines, typewriters and horticultural implements, repair them and send them to vocational training projects, mostly in East Africa.

Tools for Self Reliance have more of a focus on commercially useful tools, which are again sent out to Africa.

Tools With A Mission send all kinds of tools all over the world to help people develop their own skills and careers.

Power tools are trickier to rehome, but if they are broken beyond repair they can be added to the WEEE waste bin at your local recycling centre.
