This is an old photo. The room has changed, but the mess remains.
If you’ve listened to the latest Emma and Pete Show episode then you’ll know that we’ve decided to have a serious clear-out and declutter.
There are three benefits to getting rid of a lot of our stuff:
- Our remaining time in this house will be much more pleasant when we’re not surrounded by constant mess.
- This house will be easier to sell when it’s tidier, and moving will be easier without having to declutter at the last minute.
- One of our current options is moving into a new house that is smaller, or no bigger, than this one. And if we do that then we’ve got too much stuff.
We came to this decision over the weekend, and have already begun removing the excess. Yesterday we took almost all of my gardening magazines to be recycled (I’ve kept the occasional article, in a scrapbook), together with two bags of recipe books that we don’t use.
Pete has been clearing out his office and has produced 5 sacks of rubbish, which the bin men will take away today. I’m not going to ask him what’s in them, although you can if you want ;)
Judging by what we’ve seen so far, there are lots of quick wins to be had – things that are definitely surplus to requirements and are easy to get rid of. Once those are gone then things will get harder, but we’ll cross that bridge later.
