Big Green Blog Gathering: Farming with Nature

As part of the Big Green Blog Gathering, we’re hosting the Green Cinema today :) It may be solar powered later on if the sun comes out (but we’re hoping for rain), but at the meantime it’s powered by 100% renewable energy from Good Energy.

This film was chosen by my friend Mr. H as one of his favourite films on permaculture, which ties into all the themes that are being covered by the BGBG this week.

Movie Night Hops

We may have mentioned this in the show, but Pete and I are setting aside the occasional evening to watch a movie together. It may sound dull, but there’s an extra factor – the movies chosen have to be linked together somehow.

We started when the Star Trek Blu-Ray arrived (Pete chose the 3 disc version!). I loved this film when I saw it at the cinema, and it didn’t disappoint on the small screen, either, although Pete is not as big a fan of Zachary Quinto as I am ;) Or Star Trek, for that matter, but it’s a little-known fact that one of our earliest dates was to see a Star Trek movie (must have been Insurrection) because it was New Year’s Day and there was nothing else on.

Anyway, Pete chose John Cho as his link to the next film – Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. I wasn’t too keen, having bailed out halfway through the first Harold and Kumar movie, but this one wasn’t so bad! And it made a nice change of pace after watching The West Wing from start to finish.

I chose Neil Patrick Harris as my slightly-more-tenuous link to the next film. NPH worked with Josh Whedon on Dr. Horrible, and Josh Whedon also directed Serenity. It wasn’t until we watched it that we found there is a more direct link – David Krumholtz is in both films (something I should have remembered since I am a big fan of Numb3rs).

Pete’s next film (and the latest in our series) is A Knight’s Tale, with the link being Alan Tudyk.

I have already made my next selection – Iron Man – but can you work out the link, without looking it up?

This is very sweary language-wise, so audio NSFW, but it’s scarily accurate.

Citizen Engineer #1: the best video I've seen in weeks

Citizen_Engineer from citizen engineer on Vimeo.

This is Citizen Engineer #1 –it’s nerdy, be warned, but it’s very good. Mostly because of the foxy-girl-with-soldering-iron action, but the payphone hackery is also sublimely cool.

It makes me want to dust off the soldering iron here and make stuff. Just need to find space for a workbench…easier said than done, though the garage is next on the list of things to do.

Emma and Pete TV - coming soon

We’re planning a regular video show for release later in 2009 2010. There are, however, no firm plans right now – rest assured we’ll announce when it’s ready.

Content-wise, it will be identical to Emma and Pete HD, but have a much smaller download size – perfect for iPods and average speed broadband connections. And impatient people.

In addition to downloads being available from iTunes and Mevio, there will also be a site Flash player so you can watch from anywhere, rather like YouTube.

Emma and Pete HD - coming soon

We’re planning a high-definition video show for later in 2009 2010. There are no firm plans yet, but we’ll announce when it’s ready.

As far as content is concerned, it will be identical to Emma and Pete TV, but have a larger download size due to the increased resolution/screen size. It’ll likely be released in 720p format – ideal for your hi-def TV or computer screen, though a fast internet connection (or patient demeanor) is recommended.

In addition to downloads being available via iTunes and from Mevio, there will also be a site Flash player so you can watch from anywhere, rather like YouTube.
